The Vietnamese government has established the Vietnam Film Development Association, which has the role of a national film commission. The move was announced on Monday at the Asian Film Market, part of the Busan International Film Festival.
"One of our most important tasks is to help international filmmakers come to Vietnam and make films with Vietnamese filmmakers," said Ngo Phoung Lan, a former film critic and former director general of the Vietnamese Cinema Department, who has been appointed head of the new organization. Lan is also a former director of the Hanoi International Film Festival.
"The broader mission of the VFD is to 'unite and promote the creative potential of the Vietnamese film industry and support them in creating quality films,'" he said.
The members of the new association are local studios under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as local investors and private sector distributors. Current members include BHD Media, Galaxy Studio, & nbsp; Red Ruby Entertainment and & nbsp; HKFilm.
The opening event took place in BEXCO with the participation of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam. Other benevolent members included Lee Yong-kwan, director of the Busan Festival, Phil Choy, director of the International Business Department of the Asian Film Commission Network, and Deborah Gabinetti, director of the Bali Film Center.
"I hope that the Korean Film Council, the Busan Film Commission and all other Korean film commissions will establish strong ties with the Vietnam Film Development Association," Lee said.Jessica Chastain talks to Shira Haas about "Unusual"
